Mailing list

This is a great way to share news or to ask for help when you have a Mac question. The "boisemacs" list works like this: after you've subscribed, you can send a message to every other subscribed member by sending an email. Your email is automatically routed to all the rest of us. And every time someone writes to the group, you'll receive a copy of their message. If you ever have any questions about the list, contact our List and Web Officer. Here's where you sign up for our mail list or update your settings or check the archives.

List rules

For the best experience on the boisemacs list, keep these things in mind. They're standard mailing list etiquette, for the consideration of all:

  1. Please keep to plain text or simple styling as this reduces the weight of your message.
  2. When you reply, keep the core material so it's clear what you're responding to, but trim off anything non-essential. This makes it easier to read and is also helpful to people on digest (so they don't have to read the same thing a million times).
  3. Of course: no religion, no politics, no rude language.
  4. If you have classifieds or for sale or wanted items, you may post to the mailing list. If you are a member, you can also have your info posted to the website. NOTE: BoiseMacs is not party to any transactions resulting from posting or responding to a classified listing (for sale, trade, etc.) and any participants enter into communications and agreements of their own volition. Use good sense.
  5. Subject lines: two things.
    1. Make it meaningful. If you're wondering about Program X your message will be much more likely to catch the eye of someone proficient in Program X if you say “Program X not saving files” than if you just say “help me”
    2. If the subject changes, please start a new thread. This is not only helpful (and courteous) to we who will be able to see a new topic is now being discussed, but the list archives are kept in threads and this will help anyone later researching a topic to see all relevant follow-ups.
  6. If you post but no one responds, post again with “2nd post” added to your subject line.
  7. If you are having problems, be as specific as possible about what Mac you have, what version it's running, etc.
  8. If your post is rejected, don't get ticked off. This is not personal; it's for the good of all, and also keeps in mind our now-limited server space. We can no longer go through and remove individual posts to keep the archives clean. The List and Web Officer will try and explain what the problem is at the time it's sent back to you.
  9. Please don't use Tiny-URL and related services to truncate the links within your post. We all want to see where we'll be going when we click on that link.
  10. And finally, remember this is a list for Mac owners and fans. Please use discretion and don't post about things entirely unrelated to Macs. And of course, no selling of your business or service or product on-list. If you are unsure, ask the List and Web Officer first for her feedback.
