Mailing list tips
For the best experience on the boisemacs list, keep these
things in mind:
- There is a new page to sign up, get the email address to post to, check [new list] archives, or change your settings.
- Attachments are no longer allowed. There is a maximum size of 100k per post. We don't have a server the size of Yahoo's any longer.
- If you know how to send in plain text, please do so. This is standard mailing list etiquette.
- Good standard mailing list etiquette also calls for trimming off anything unnecessary when you reply to someone.
- It should go without saying, but: no religion, no politics, no rude language.
- Send classifieds, for sale, wanted, etc. Through the classifieds page on the site.
- Subject lines: two things.
- Make it meaningful. If you're wondering about Program X your message will be much more likely to catch the eye of someone proficient in Program X if you say “Program X not saving files” than if you just say “help me”
- If the subject changes, please change the subject message. It's just courteous.
- If you post but no one responds, post again with “2nd post” added to your subject line.
- If you are having problems, be as specific as possible about what Mac you have, what version it's running, etc.
- If your post is rejected, don't get ticked off. This is not personal; it's for the good of all, and also keeps in mind our now-limited server space. We can no longer go through and remove individual posts to keep the archives clean. The List and Web Officer will try and explain what the problem is at the time it's sent back to you.
- Questions? Ask your List and Web Officer.
Thanks! And see you on the list!
