What about all those IconBuffet icons?
This is a post brought over from Emma's Friends, a now retired Mac blog. Originally published 2/25/2008. Author CF.
You know about IconBuffet's free delivery of tasty wee icons, right? For a while, I was so enamored that I even signed up as a VIP for an extra $6 or so a month. That, plus the months preceding and following, gave me an unwieldy blob of icons to mush through. And their site speed (slowness) being what it is, I didn't like browsing around to refresh myself on the catalogue whenever I needed a peppy little image for a web site. I mean, I had over 100 sets!
My solution came in the form of Panic's Candybar. Panic are those folks who make the best Mac FTP program around, hands down: Transmit. Candybar had been a stand-alone desktop customizing program (through v.2) but for version 3 it merged with Pixadex (from Iconfactory), which I already had. So one small upgrade later, I was set.
What I do is drag the 32x32 icons into Candybar, to give me a method to quickly browse: my premier goal. To save a bit of space on my hard drive, I threw out all but the PNG JPG and TIF folders. Now I can spot what I need for this or that job very quickly.
