A web server with MySQL on my iMac

Let me be straightforward: I've had unpleasant experiences in the past trying to install and operate (and most importantly, actually utilize) a MySQL database on my Macs. In the end, I had this gargantuan mass of lost space with tendril spread 20 ways to Sunday, only to be regained if I did a wipe and reinstall.
I'd already enabled PHP and Apache in Leopard.
But then (and I was thinking it was via MacTips' great Mac helps, but I don't see it -- no matter), I was hipped to MAMP (that's free; there's also a paid pro version) and was delighted to read:
Furthermore, if MAMP is no longer needed, it is sufficient to delete the MAMP folder and everything returns to its original status (i.e. MAMP does not modify any of the "normal" OS X).Say no more. With this page (which goes on to explain how to install WordPress locally, to use with MAMP) holding my hand, I leapt in. I'll let you know how it goes!
